airport coffee
recently i passed through changi airport in singapore with my family. we had about 12 hours to kill and a coffee was in order. there was a myriad of cafes to choose from. we randomly picked one and were pleasantly surprised. we were in terminal 1 and we stumbled upon the spinelli san francisco coffee company. i watched the barista do his thing and he looked like he knew what he was doing. seemed to take pride in his coffee. he did do one strange thing (well seemed strange to me). he first poured the milk into the cup and then added the espresso shot into the milk! anyway didn't seem to effect the taste for it was a very nice brew.

Haha, I can't say I've had many great coffee experiences at airports in my travels overseas. Europe on the other hand was an exception, even the airports seemed to have good espresso. Perhaps it was just the fact that I was on holidays that everything was great.
In Sydney, I normally just head to the lounge and get my free serving of coffee (there's a barista serving up coffee in the qantas club lounge in the mornings). When traveling Virgin Airlines at the other terminal, I found Quikfix not too bad... they use Allpress coffee there.
If it was a flat-white/latte/cappucino then certainly an interesting method. I have however made a 3-layered mocha where I pour the milk first, then the chocolate, followed by an espresso shot slowly via the back of a silver spoon.

hey andrew, don't you think it is a bit lame that qantas only has a barista brewing coffee in the mornings? it should be a 24/7 service.
btw, the coffee i had in singapore airport was a latte.

Agree whole-heartedly. Incidentally, from memory this service followed when Virgin started doing it.
Remove all the super-automatics and set up a cafe with a barista or two in there I reckon.

Quikfix it is for me at the Virgin Sydney domestic terminal boys. Any cafe wanting to know how to get a quick system going that actually works for takeaway coffees should go there. To see a system that doesn't work, just go to the cafe just as you walk in to Taronga zoo in Sydney!
By the way Steve, Spinelli's has been serving great coffee in Singapore since the mid '90's or even before. It is good coffee!
