Domestic Coffee Machines on a tight budget

Hi All,

I just read the article "Choosing an Espresso Machine for Home" and I was wondering if the following machines are any good? I just want to make maybe a cup of coffee a day and a budget of around $600.

Breville Venezia Espresso Machine
Breville Café Modena Espresso Machine
Krups K2 Espresso Maker
Saeco Via Vanezia

Thanks.

Hi Gloria,

The Saeco Via Vanezia comes recommended from this bunch. I had one for 6 years and it served me well. Fellow barista zoo Steve has one now and makes great coffee from it. I would recommend a good grinder though to go with it. A De Longhi or Sunbeam Conical would be my choice of the affordable domestic grinders. Good luck!
I finally bought my Via Vanezia yesterday. I can't wait to start practising what I learnt in the Barista Basic Class. :D

Thanks so much for your advice, Matthew.
Hi Matthew,

I've also bought a Saeco Via Vanezia coffee machine. However, i couldn't get the perfect smooth milk froth. Just wondering if it's the nature of the machine or it's my skill problem?

Thanks!
Take the black outside cover of the steam wand off - you will be left with just the stainless steel steam wand and the inside of the black cover. This will give you one shot of steam. Now when you froth - start the wand in the milk - just lower the tip near the surface of the milk after you get a swirl going and gently let air into the milk. If you see big bubble you are dropping it too quickly. Keep doing this until you get the required froth and then let it swirl until you hit the required temperature. Let me know how you go!
It works perfectly!! I managed to get creamy shiny froth!! yeah~~
Thank you so so much!!!
Great! Have fun :)
Saeco should give you a percentage of their profits on the Via Vanezia from all the sales you've made for them! I ordered my own one today thank you for the good advice =)
Sunbeam Cafe Series
Can't go wrong with the Via Venezia out of that list...
