Anyone have one of these machines or one from when ECM made them? If so what do you think?

Hi Chris,

My brother-in-law has one and he loves it. The Vibiemme Domobar Super Lever in my view has more ability to spin the milk and therefore can produce a better milk texture and I also think it's ability to cope with multiple coffees is better as the Vibiemme has a bigger boiler.

The Giotto is a top-looking machine though and is probably unrivalled in look and design.

FYI - these are the new improvements - as per their press release! It will help you compare the old and the new. Even the old one is a well regarded machine.

New machine features
New steam and hot water handles

We have redesigned the steam
& hot water handless. The new handles have a superior feel
and have our own unique centre caps to retain the elegance
that Giotto and Cellini have become known for.

Control panel
Now, a low water level in the reservoir is indicated by the
flashing of the power lamp. Of course the pump is still
disabled should the water level become critical. Additionally
we have a new pressure gauge with a large 68mm diameter,
a stronger and more robust ignition switch.

Newly designed feet
New and redesigned feet. 125mm of surface contact area
on each foot ensures the stability of the machine. The
machines now sit at height of 30mm which enhances the
visual presence of both the Giotto and Cellini.

Drain tray modifications
New drain tray lines now follow the contours of the machines,
adding to the elegance that is Giotto and Cellini. Drain trays
now slide out to eliminate water slop when being emptied.

Commercially specified pressure stat
At last a domestic espresso machine that has a pressure
stat with the accuracy of 0.035 degrees. Temperature control
as good as it gets, with the addition of a fully commercial
pressure stat. Technology that in the past was reserved for
commercial machines only.

Enhanced temperature control
We have increased the diameter of both the inlet and outlet
group pipes which increases water circulation and aids
thermal retention within the group. Now Giotto and Cellini
feature group circulation pipes of 10mm. We have also
fitted a restrictor into the group inlet tube, which adds
control and stability to the group water temperature.

New cup frame surround
The retro beauty of the famous espresso machines of the
50's and 60's has been retained with the Giotto and Cellini
cup frames. The new cup frame has a thickness of 5,5 mm
and is now firmly secured in four fixing points.
